One late summer day I was headed out from class and I noticed the magazine stands had a catchy cover featuring a monarch butterfly. It's amazing how simple things can start from a moment of curiosity. That was how I found Branches, a state-wide distributed magazine based on holistic health, mediation, yoga, and the metaphysical. It was what one might call perfect timing, as I had just finished an art piece that demonstrated the Indian mudra (hand signs) for an opening lotus which represents a heart awakening. I had to act fast though because I saw they were accepting submissions with the deadline being that day.
The very next morning after my submission went through, I found that the editor of Branches emailed a response saying they enjoyed my work and said it was a great fit for the content for that fall issue. A few days later I received the green light and my work was featured on their cover, my first publication. I would say that school and working hard to enhance my skills has indeed paid off, but it is also just as important to listen to our hearts.
